Not training them and they stay!!
We believe that you can never do enough training with your team. Team training has so many benefits, including boosting morale, growing skills and showing your team that you value them enough to invest in them.
According to a Harvard Business Review, only 10% of the population have a “learning mindset”. This 10% of people will actively invest their time and money in growing their knowledge and skills. Where does that leave the balance of 90% and the businesses they work for?
Training can take many forms, including the following:
- Outsourced Expert Training
- Internal Training
- On-the-Job Training
- Role Swaps (to learn somebody else’s job)
- Mentorship Programmes
- Outsourced Professional Coaching
From experience, we have found the following training topics to be very popular and effective:
1. Sales Training
There is no college, university or institution that you can go to to learn how to sell, yet selling is an absolute profession. No sales = no business. From experience, we have found that many businesses do a lot of product training, but little to no training on how to sell. Selling is an art and it must be mastered for maximum results. We firmly believe that anybody can learn how to sell, with the right training and attitude.
2. Management Training
Very often people progress to management positions, yet they have had very little formal management training or coaching. If you are expecting them to get great results from their teams, you need to equip them with the tools to manage. Skills like delegation and holding people accountable, can all be learnt with the correct training.
3. Time Management Training
Everybody needs time management training. Time, being our biggest asset is the one thing we can never get back. As the demands of the working world increase, so does the need to manage your time. There is a massive difference between being busy & productive and we estimate many businesses lose thousands of man-hours per annum due to poor time management and inefficiency.
4. Customer Service Training
This is the one thing we often take for granted. We talk about customer service with our teams but don’t set aside time to train them on this. The objective of customer service is NOT to satisfy the client, but rather to delight them and turn them into Raving Fans. Raving Fans are customers so delighted with your service that they go out of their way to tell everyone about you, making them a salesperson for your business, better yet, an unpaid salesperson. Creating raving fans will not happen by default, but by design and you need to train your people on how to do this.
ActionCOACH Ignite offers expert training to companies on the above 4 topics.
Sales training is full day and management, time management and customer service are half-day training.
